The endless parade of salespeople with their huge promises, shiny presentations, and zero understanding of what it's like to run a service business.

I would end up feeling like I had lit my money on fire for all the good it did me.

They handed me off to account managers who knew nothing about my business.

They did cookie-cutter work that didn’t do anything to move the needle.

I would be locked into another contract.

I got so sick of hearing:

I finally reached my breaking point.

I was done writing checks to companies that didn’t know what they were doing and feeling like an ATM.

I wanted to work with people who understood my business and genuinely cared about our success.

I had started four businesses up to this point in my career, and this felt like a problem worth solving.

But first, I had to learn how to get my website to the top of Google.

I went all in.

For almost 2 years, I studied SEO, digital marketing, and Google ranking tips and tricks.

I tested every idea on my own website.

I learned that the digital marketing agencies I had hired in the past were built with one goal in mind – TO MAKE MONEY. And a lot of it. They have strong branding, spend a fortune on advertising, and promote themselves at conferences. They pay huge commissions to industry companies to refer clients to them. Then, they pay salespeople over $100,000 a year to make big promises and lock business owners into contracts, only to hand them off to ‘account managers’ who often have little understanding of what’s really going on. This way of doing business makes me sick.

Then, all the work I was doing on my website and online presence started paying off.

  • Our Google rankings started improving.

  • Our phone rang more than ever.

I kept applying what I had learned, and things kept getting better and better.

Over the next three years, my business grew by 30% a year, while I spent less and less on traditional marketing.

The success my business had with Google led me to help a friend with his marketing, then another, and eventually to sell my company to my brother-in-law and start my own digital marketing agency.
